National Council and Unicef Forge Partnership to Advance Children’s Rights

Windhoek: The National Council and the United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef) have formalized a new partnership aimed at advancing children's rights through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday. This strategic collaboration underscores a mutual dedication to safeguarding and uplifting the welfare of children.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the MoU was signed by National Council Chairperson Lukas Muha and Unicef Country Representative Samuel Ocran. During the signing ceremony in Windhoek, Muha highlighted the significance of this partnership, which is designed to bolster the rights of children as outlined in the Namibian Constitution and supported by various international frameworks.

The agreement outlines several core objectives, including tackling vital issues impacting children, enhancing outreach and community involvement, and fostering children's engagement through structures like the Junior National Council and junior regional councils. Additionally, the partnership aims to enhance institutional capacity to effectively implement these goals.

Muha emphasized the importance of annual plans that detail specific activities and incorporate monitoring and evaluation processes to ensure accountability and track progress. He called on the administrative arms of both organizations to focus on executing these plans for the betterment of children in Namibia.

Unicef's Samuel Ocran praised the National Council's dedication and stressed that the MoU marks the start of a journey towards greater cooperation and innovation for children's welfare. Ocran reaffirmed Unicef's commitment to aiding Namibia in creating an environment where every child can achieve their potential.
