The Namibia Basketball Federation (NBF) will host its first-ever three on three regional tournaments at Rietfontein in the Otjozondjupa Region during the weekend of 26 to 28 November 2021.

NBF President Nigel Mubita said here on Thursday the 3×3 competition is a game that the NBF wants to grow in Namibia as it is a fast-paced game and it is the fastest way that Namibia will realise its dream of qualifying for the Olympics if the sport is promoted well.

“We received a sponsorship of N.dollars 150 000 from Vivo Energy Namibia and First National Bank also contributed N.dollars 65 000 for this championship that will see seven regions competing amongst each other in the female and male categories,” he said.

The NBF president also said that logistics and administration matters are already finalised and it is now up to the participants from the regions to ensure that their players are fit for the tournament.

“Teams competing in this championship were selected from the regional competitions that were hosted earlier this year in the different regions,” Mubita said.

Meanwhile, NBF Marketing Officer Kanaedo Karamata said the NBF will be responsible for all logistics besides transportation, which the teams have to arrange themselves.

Regions expected to compete at the championships are Oshikoto, Oshana, Erongo, Zambezi, Khomas, Ohangwena and Kavango East.

Kavango East will only have one team which is their men’s team with the rest of the regions having both teams at the championship.

The winners from both categories will each walk away with N.dollars 3000 while the runner up will receive N.dollar 2 000 and third-placed teams will receive N.dollars 1 500.

The winning teams will also receive trophies and gold medals, while second and third place will receive silver and bronze medals respectively.
