Windhoek: The National Democratic Party (NDP) has rallied in defense of its president, Martin Lukato, amidst accusations that he is running the party as a 'one-man show' and behaving in an autocratic manner.According to Namibia Press Agency, the defense came from NDP deputy president for operations, David Mwilima, during a media conference. Mwilima addressed recent claims made by former secretary-general Alex Linyando, who alleged that Lukato has effectively turned the party into a solitary operation.'These allegations are regrettable, misleading, and clearly intended to tarnish the reputation of the president, the deputy president for administration, finance and marketing, Brave Zita Ndopu, and the good name of the National Democratic Party,' Mwilima declared. He emphasized that it is unfortunate for individuals to pursue personal agendas through public attacks rather than engaging in constructive internal dialogue.Mwilima further stated that the NDP leadership completely rejects these accusations, rea ffirming the party's dedication to democratic principles, collective leadership, transparency, and accountability. He stressed that all significant decisions by the leadership have been guided by the party's constitution and national interests.He also pointed out that instead of celebrating the NDP's progress, some members have chosen to spread false narratives aimed at discrediting those who have worked hard to establish the party. He noted that framing ongoing organizational development as evidence of dictatorship or a lack of democracy is unfair and misleading.Mwilima urged party members to maintain discipline, uphold unity, and address grievances through established constitutional channels, reiterating that the party remains focused on serving the people and fulfilling its mandate.NDP national spokesperson Rasboom Mwemba labeled the accusations as unfounded and misleading, stating that it is untrue that the president is dictating party decisions. Mwemba also mentioned that a financial report will be released soon.Regarding the extraordinary congress initially scheduled for March 2026, Mwemba explained that financial constraints led to its postponement. Additionally, it was announced that three party members, including Linyando, Allen Mwilima, and Obrien Lisulo, were expelled for non-performance and failing to adhere to party directives.In a closing gesture, Lukato presented certificates to 18 party members recognized for their outstanding character, integrity, and positive influence.
