Nedbank Desert Dash Set for 21st Edition with Over 1,000 Cyclists Ready to Compete

Windhoek: The Nedbank Desert Dash returns this Friday for its 21st edition, with more than 1,000 cyclists expected to compete. The endurance race will once again see riders set off from the Grove Mall in Windhoek on Friday and make the journey to Platz Am Meer in Swakopmund.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the more than 1,000 cyclists from around the world are expected to compete in what is regarded as the world's longest single-stage mountain bike race, a 24-hour challenge across 401 kilometers of the Namib Desert. Race organiser Leander Borg of LEMA Events stated that preparations are progressing well, with favourable weather conditions expected. He emphasized the importance of sponsors in the event's success and highlighted ongoing innovations to keep the race challenging.

Borg outlined the competition categories, which include the solo dash (half and full - male and female), the two-person team dash (half and full - male, female, and mixed), and the four-person team dash (full - male, female, and mixed). Meanwhile, JG van Graan, Nedbank Namibia's Chief Commercial Officer, acknowledged the organisers' efforts and expressed excitement about participating alongside colleagues. He noted the significant economic impact of the event on Swakopmund and the race's role in advancing cycling in Namibia.

Van Graan also mentioned that colleagues from Nedbank Africa Regions are participating, reflecting the event's growing stature. The Nedbank Desert Dash is sponsored by Nedbank Namibia as the title sponsor, alongside Indongo Toyota, Hollard, Paratus, SuperSpar Maerua, and the Grove.
