Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security, Daniel Kashikola on Tuesday officially inaugurated the newly built Nyae-Nyae Police Station in the Tsumkwe area, situated approximately 575 kilometres east of Grootfontein in the Otjozondjupa Region.

Kashikola in his official remarks said he was delighted to see the government providing resources aimed at combating crime in the country and keeping the general public and their properties safe.

He stated that the new police station cost government more than N.dollars 49 million to build, and it comprises a charge office, two houses with two bedrooms each, two barracks with 20 bedrooms, 12 for men and eight for women.

The police station is also equipped with a kitchen and dining hall, a borehole for water supply and two pick-ups for policing purposes.

“Our government will still continue in its commitment to addressing challenges being faced by members of our police force mostly in providing them with accommodation, offices and equipment, or tools for policing activities across the country,” he said.

Kashikola then urged members of the police force to deliver professional policing services to the residents of Nyae-Nyae.

At the event, Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Inspector-General, Lieutenant-General Sebastian Ndeitunga also urged the general public in the area to continue working with the police to report all criminal activities and suspicious movements in the area.

He said the Nyae-Nyae area and the entire Otjozondjupa Region have a high prevalence of stock theft, rape, general theft, and house break-ins.

“In order to tackle these crimes, as police officers, you needed a conducive working environment like this one, therefore, I thank our government for this facility on behalf of all police officers,” said Ndeitunga.

He said the construction of the new police station started in February 2016 and was completed in September 2021, while urging the police officers to take good care of it.
