NFA administrators workshop kicks off

The administration and management workshop organised by the Namibia Football Association (NFA) in line with the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), kicked off at Soccer House in Windhoek on Tuesday.

The four-day workshop is being attended by representatives from the 12 Namibia Premier Football League teams and representatives from the 14 regional structures in Namibia.

The workshop is aimed at providing practical know-how and insight on the administration of the game, club operations, finance, marketing, communications, club licensing, governance and responsibilities of team managers.

Speaking during the opening ceremony on Tuesday, NFA Acting Technical Director and co-facilitator of the workshop, Jaqueline Shipanga said the course is meant to empower facilitators in managing their activities better.

“The workshop will cover key areas on how to successfully manage football at club levels. Our goal is to empower those running football in the country to improve the sport,” said Shipanga, adding that more courses on sport management and administration are earmarked for the future.

In a speech read on his behalf, Chief Administrator of the Namibia Sports Commission (NSC), Freddy Mwiya, said the initiative of running this kind of workshop is in line with the NSC’s strategic objective of ensuring that clubs and regions are managed in the line of effective leadership and are vision oriented.

“Gone are the days when one runs a code without relevant skills as the 21st century requires dynamic leaders who can bring positive changes to their organisations. This workshop will go a long way in supporting professionalising football as a national code,” he said.

The workshop is being facilitated by sports consultant and instructor Mathew Haikali and assisted by various experts.
