Windhoek: Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare has called for greater unity among Namibia's traditional authorities, emphasizing that dialogue, mutual respect, and cooperation are essential for the advancement of communities. Ngurare made the remarks during a courtesy visit by Chief Professor Mutjinde Katjiua and members of the Ovaherero Chiefs Council in Windhoek on Wednesday.According to Namibia Press Agency, Ngurare stressed that differing opinions should not detract from the shared responsibility of traditional leaders to serve their communities. He urged collective efforts towards unity and empowerment, stating, 'My hope and prayer are for unity. Even if we profoundly disagree, let us talk to each other. Let us not pass each other in the streets and point to each other with our mouths. I am just a young person who wants to see unity among traditional authorities, unity, unity, and unity.'Ngurare reiterated the government's commitment to promoting social cohesion, constructive engagement, and impartial consu ltation with all stakeholders. He declared, 'Whatever causes division is not in the interest of the eighth administration. For us, the interest of our people is bigger than our differences.'The prime minister also assured that the concerns raised by the Ovaherero Chiefs Council would be brought to the attention of President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah. During the meeting, Katjiua highlighted several issues affecting the Ovaherero community, including the transnational identity of the Ovaherero people, the recognition of the Ovadhimba as a traditional authority, drought and food insecurity, and concerns over resource exploration activities in the Kunene, Erongo, and Hardap regions. The delegation further maintained that the current Joint Declaration on the Ovaherero and Nama genocide does not meet the aspirations of the affected communities.
