Windhoek: The Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB) has called on foreign investors to apply for the newly introduced Employment Permit to Conduct a Business, which can be issued for a period of up to five years. This initiative is part of efforts to streamline the process for investors aiming to establish and operate businesses within Namibia, thereby aiding in long-term business planning.

According to Namibia Press Agency, NIPDB Acting Chief Executive Officer Julia Muetudhana emphasized that the permit reflects the government's commitment to enhancing the ease of conducting business and addressing challenges identified by investors. Muetudhana stated, "This new investor permit gives investors the certainty and long-term security they need to commit to doing business in Namibia."

Applications for the permit are required to be submitted through NIPDB. The board will verify the investor's status and evaluate the economic impact of the proposed investment before making a recommendation to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security (MHAISS). The statement clarifies, "The final decision on the application rests with MHAISS, as the authorised institution responsible for the issuance of visas and permits."

The permit is accessible to foreign investors who have their investor status confirmed by NIPDB and meet the set requirements. For those who do not qualify for the five-year permit, it is advised to apply through the existing Employment Permit process managed by MHAISS. This initiative is designed to attract quality investment, generate employment, and bolster industrialisation efforts in Namibia.
