Nujoma’s Remains Depart Grootfontein for Walvis Bay Memorial Service

Grootfontein: The remains of Founding President Sam Nujoma departed from the Grootfontein military base Tuesday morning, en route to Walvis Bay in the Erongo Region, where the sixth regional State memorial service will be held.

According to Namibia Press Agency, several political and regional leaders accompanied the convoy from Omulunga Sports Stadium to the military base, where the Namibian Defence Force aircraft transporting Nujoma's remains was scheduled to take off at 09h00.

Residents from the Otjozondjupa, Omaheke, and Oshikoto regions gathered to pay their final respects during the fifth regional memorial service held in Grootfontein on Monday.

Tuesday's memorial service will take place at the Kuisebmond Stadium in Walvis Bay, with proceedings scheduled to start at 14h00.

Nujoma died on 08 February 2025 at the age of 95 in Windhoek. He will be laid to rest on Saturday at Heroes' Acre, just outside the capital.
