The inaugural Okahandja Football League (OFL) campaign is nearing completion, with just three fixtures left and six teams in for a title race with a small difference of six points between the first and the fifth team.

The league, which was introduced last year, has managed to revive football in the garden town attracting 14 teams, all based in the vicinity of Okahandja.

The weekend fixtures will see Legends Football Club who over the weekend emerged victorious at the Pool and Play tournament held at the Nau-Aib Stadium in Okahandja, taking on second-placed Young Fresh FC.

Despite a slow start, Legends also have a shot at winning the inaugural OFL, after raking in five consecutive wins to claim fifth place on the log standing. A victory on Saturday will give Legends 22 points to remain in touching distance of the log leaders, Dollar United, who are on 24 points and have to face Okahandja FC in another crucial tie on Sunday to raise their chances of winning the league.

Saturday fixtures will also see 10th and 11th-placed Northern United and Ora Eleven go head to head to determine who finishes in the top 10 of the 14-team league. Mikra United will then face off with Battle Boys who are fighting relegation in the 13th position with zero wins, while league contender Smokkel Boys will be taking on California FC.

On Sunday, bottom of the table Okakambe FC who are yet to record a win will have to fight tooth and nail as they take on third-placed Oshako United, with Guardians FC looking to collect maximum points and keep in touch with the top two contenders as they take on Oshetu United in the 12th position. Okahandja FC, who started the league on a high note and is now seventh on the log standing, will be taking on first-placed Dollar United who is yet to taste defeat.

Okahandja FC’s Wesley Owoseb leads the goal-scoring tally with 14 goals in 11 games.

The league management reminded that COVID-19 protocols would be adhered to.
