Omaheke: The 2026 annual Omaheke Primary Schools Tournament is scheduled to take place this weekend at the Okovimburu Sports Field in the Epukiro Constituency of the Omaheke Region.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the tournament is an initiative organized by Good Hope Primary School (PS) with the dual aim of raising funds for the school and providing a platform for learners to showcase their talents at an early age. The event will see participation from 23 schools under the auspices of the Namibia School Sports Union (NSSU).
Kariramua Mungendje, sports organiser for Good Hope PS, stated that the competition will include football, netball, and volleyball categories for the Under-13 and U-15 age groups. Mungendje emphasized that the event is open not only to Okovimburu-based schools but to all schools within the Epukiro Constituency. He noted that such events offer opportunities for local businesses to promote and sell their products.
The event has received support from the Otjakapuuo peers' group from Epukiro, which donated soccer balls, medals, and other training equipment to Good Hope PS. Mungendje mentioned that the group will be present at the tournament and will participate in a football match against Epukiro teachers on Saturday.
Ivo Mate, head of NSSU in the Omaheke Region, confirmed that preparations are complete, and emphasized that all schools and teams are expected to adhere to the competition rules. Mate highlighted the importance of school management in monitoring students during the event, ensuring their safety and well-being.
The tournament is scheduled to commence at 07h00 on Saturday and will conclude on Sunday.
