Omuthiya: The Omuthiya Town Council has deployed a team of 50 of its residents to enhance community safety through a clean-up initiative. Town council spokesperson, Martha Andreas, told Nampa in an interview on Thursday that these individuals are currently working in teams across key areas.
According to Namibia Press Agency, one area of focus is the Omuthiya cemetery, where overgrown grass along internal roads and open spaces is cleared to reduce the risk posed by snakes and other hazardous reptiles. Andreas said another team is actively clearing the New Omatala Area, transforming it into a more functional space intended for community events, entertainment, and local trading.
“This initiative not only addresses the practical need for a cleaner and safer Omuthiya, but also provides temporary employment for residents,” she said. She indicated that the council is still inviting residents registered under the Omuthiya Local Authority to join this community effort. According to Andreas, interested individuals can visit the council offices with a certified copy of their Namibian identification documents and voter registration cards.
She also appealed to families with loved ones laid to rest in the Omuthiya Cemetery to visit and clear any overgrown grass from the tombstones, some of which are becoming obscured. Additionally, she urged residents and investors to consider the newly cleared space at the New Omatala for their upcoming events, entertainment plans, and business ventures.
