Rundu:The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) has enhanced its crime prevention efforts in Rundu as part of Operation Basadi. The operation targets crime hotspots and areas where women are at risk of violence and other crimes.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Operation Basadi 2026 is a women-led, nationwide crime prevention campaign. It was officially launched on 18 September 2026 in Windhoek by the Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security, Lucia Iipumbu. The operation, which concludes on Tuesday, includes collaboration between NamPol, the Namibian Correctional Service, the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism, Namibia Youth Service members, police reservists, and women's networks.

Deputy Commissioner for Crime Prevention in the Kavango East Region, Lucia Kahuure, briefed women in uniform at the Rundu Police Station on Monday. She emphasized that the operation's goal is to bolster crime prevention through intelligence-led policing and coordinated patrols in crime-prone areas.

Kahuure outlined that risk profiles will be developed for targeted hotspots to help officers better comprehend the nature of crimes in those areas and devise appropriate interventions. Officers are conducting various activities such as mobile roadblocks, foot patrols, and random stop-and-search operations, focusing on people and vehicles in places like bus and taxi ranks, shops, hotels, and other public spaces.

The police are also involved in community awareness campaigns on gender-based violence and related crimes, while simultaneously gathering and analyzing information to aid in investigations and crime prevention. The operation includes executing protection orders and warrants of arrest for wanted individuals.

All activities are conducted in compliance with relevant laws and regulations, with officers expected to respect fundamental human rights. The operation is coordinated through the regional police command structure, involving the regional commander, deputy commissioners, and station commanders.

Kahuure stated that the collected information during the operation will be consolidated to provide a comprehensive assessment of the activities and the crime situation in the region.
