Opuwo: Patron of the Opuwo Annual Trade Fair, Elias Kahuva, has described the annual event as a powerful driver of economic activity, empowerment, and opportunity for the Kunene Region.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Kahuva spoke at the official opening of the trade fair on Thursday, highlighting its evolution into a key platform for business engagement, service delivery, and community development. The event continues to attract a range of exhibitors, including government institutions, financial entities, parastatals, and private companies.

Kahuva underscored the importance of bringing essential services closer to the people of Opuwo and the surrounding areas. He urged residents to take full advantage of the exhibition by engaging with exhibitors and exploring available opportunities.

He noted that increased activity in accommodation establishments, fuel stations, restaurants, and among informal traders plays a vital role in stimulating the local economy, positioning Opuwo on the national map. However, Kahuva emphasized the need for stronger local business participation and called on the business community to actively support and invest in the trade fair's growth.

Kahuva stressed the importance of accountability and proper management, urging the Opuwo Town Council to ensure transparent financial reporting and measurable outcomes for the event. He also addressed social concerns, advocating for the creation of meaningful economic opportunities for young people to counter unproductive activities such as gambling.

He concluded by reaffirming that the trade fair is more than a gathering but a statement that Opuwo is open for business, innovation, and growth. The trade fair started on 20 April and ends 02 May 2026.
