Opuwo: Local professional boxer David 'Opuwo-Flash' Shinuna has set his sights on victory as he prepares to face Zimbabwean opponent Patson Mutengwa in a highly anticipated bout in Opuwo. The fight will headline the Opuwo Trade Fair Boxing Bonanza, scheduled for 25 April 2026 at the Opuwo Open Market, in the Kunene Region.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the event is expected to draw a large crowd, with a total of 22 amateur bouts lined up, giving upcoming boxers a platform to showcase their talent. In an interview with Nampa on Wednesday, Shinuna expressed confidence ahead of the fight, saying he has been putting in the work since December last year to ensure he is fully prepared.
The bout marks an important milestone for Shinuna, who will be fighting an international opponent in his hometown, something he described as a proud moment since turning professional in 2013. While he has not focused much on studying his opponent, Shinuna believes the real test will come inside the ring.
He acknowledged that Mutengwa is a taller and more experienced fighter, having faced notable boxers such as Harry Simon Jr, Onesmos Nekundi, and Sakaria Lucas. Shinuna believes his biggest advantage will be fighting at home, backed by strong support from his community. Despite this being his first fight of the year, he remains confident after months of training.
Shinuna also had a message for young aspiring fighters, urging them to stay disciplined and focused. He called on his supporters, family, friends, and veteran boxers in the region to attend the event in large numbers, emphasising that their support is key to his success.
