Rehoboth: Two men were arrested in separate undercover police operations conducted in Rehoboth's Block E residential area on Tuesday in connection with the possession of prohibited dependence-producing substances.
According to Namibia Press Agency, in the first incident, a 26-year-old Namibian male was arrested after he was allegedly found in possession of 10 parcels of cannabis skunk weighing 10 grams, with an estimated street value of N.dollars 500. The arrest followed an undercover operation carried out in the area, and the drugs were recovered at the scene.
In a separate incident on the same day and in the same residential area, a 24-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly attempted to dispose of drugs in a rubbish bin upon noticing an undercover officer. Police reported that the suspect attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended. He was found in possession of 16 bankies of cannabis skunk in zip-lock bags, seven ballies of cannabis skunk wrapped in newspaper weighing a combined 25 grams, five full mandrax tablets, and cash amounting to N.dollars 120, suspected to be proceeds of crime.
The total value of the seized items is estimated at N.dollars 1 850, and all items were recovered. Both cases involve charges under the Abuse of Dependence-Producing Substances and Rehabilitation Centres Act, 1971 (Act 41 of 1971), with the second suspect also facing an additional charge of defeating or obstructing the course of justice. Police investigations into both incidents continue.
