Baku: The Oshigambo community demonstrated its commitment to education on Friday by pledging N.dollars 101,450 and a wide range of learning and construction materials towards the renovation of classroom blocks at Oshigambo Primary School. The pledges were made during the inauguration and naming ceremony of a newly completed four-classroom block and ablution facility at the school.
According to Namibia Press Agency, in addition to the cash contributions, community members, businesses, parents, and former learners donated six computers, a printer, 100 school jerseys and school bags, sanitary pads, stationery, 245 bags of cement, five truckloads of building sand, 60 story books, farming produce and livestock, as well as various cleaning and gardening equipment.
Oshikoto Regional Director of Education, Hilma Nuunyango-George, described the overwhelming support as proof that education is a shared responsibility. She noted that Oshikoto has 235 public and private schools, many of which continue to face infrastructure challenges, including shortages of classrooms, ablution facilities, water, and electricity. Accelerating infrastructure development remains a key outcome of the recent National Education Conference, and the region will continue prioritizing safe and conducive learning environments.
Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture, Dino Ballotti praised the generosity displayed by the Oshigambo community, noting the remarkable collective support for a school. He highlighted the new ablution facilities as an example of successful collaboration between Government and the community, emphasizing that lasting development is achieved when citizens and the government work together.
