The police in Erongo have confirmed the death of Tubusis Police Station Commander, Warrant Officer Vilho Hamulua, who reportedly committed suicide by shooting himself with a service firearm.

The 56-year-old Hamulua reportedly shot himself around 10h48 while the search team was approaching his vehicle, which was parked about one-kilometre north-east of Arandis, Erongo Community Affairs Commander, Inspector Ileni Shapumba, said in a crime report on Friday.

A missing person’s report was filed after the station commander’s disappearance Tuesday.

According to Shapumba, the deceased left Tubusis for Walvis Bay for official duties in the police vehicle on Tuesday. He was reportedly seen in Walvis Bay that morning and then in Arandis later that day.

A note was found in the vehicle but it did not clearly indicate the reasons why he committed suicide.
