Polls Open Smoothly at Swakopmund

Swakopmund: Erongo Governor Natalia |Goagoses expressed satisfaction with the smooth opening of polling stations in the Swakopmund Constituency on Wednesday morning, after casting her vote at 07h00 at the Swakopmund Police Station. Speaking to Nampa immediately after voting, the governor commended the efficiency and professionalism of the electoral staff, noting that the station opened on time and that the voting process was fast and orderly.

According to Namibia Press Agency, |Goagoses encouraged all registered voters to make their way to polling stations early and cast their votes. She emphasized the importance of industries such as mining and fishing allowing their workers time off to vote, emphasizing that no registered voter should be denied the opportunity to exercise their constitutional right.

Presiding officers at various polling stations across Swakopmund also confirmed to Nampa that voting commenced on schedule, with preparations having been completed Tuesday night. At the Swakopmund Police Station, presiding officer Filomena Shihepo said the team was fully set up well ahead of time, enabling a smooth start at 07h00.

At the NG Kerk polling station, presiding officer Theolize Niigambo reported an impressive early turnout. 'Voters arrived before the opening time and we expect the numbers to increase as the day progresses,' she said.

Meanwhile, at Namib High School, where two polling streams are operating, experiences differed slightly. Namib High School Polling Station A presiding officer, Tracey Kaereho, said the opening went according to schedule but noted that she had to turn away two individuals who presented invalid voter cards. 'We have to follow procedure, and unfortunately the cards they brought were not compliant,' Kaereho explained.

The presiding officer at Polling Station B reported early technical glitches. Although the station opened on time, some minor issues such as the tablet freezing were being experienced. 'We are attending to the problems and expect the process to stabilize shortly,' the officer said.
