Rape accused businessman Otto Shikomba was on Tuesday granted bail of N.dollars 20 000 by magistrate Alice Gawanas in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court, citing a lack of sufficient evidence by the State.

Shikomba is accused of raping a 23-year-old woman on three different occasions and is facing three charges of rape and one of indecent assault.

State Prosecutor Brunah Mukoya opposed the granting of bail, saying Shikomba is a very influential businessman who is able to interfere with police investigations.

Magistrate Gawanas in her ruling said the State did not provide sufficient evidence to prove that the accused will interfere with the witness as well as the investigation if bail is granted.

Shikomba was instructed to report to Ondangwa Police station once a month between 08h00 and 16h00.

The case was postponed to 23 June 2022.
