Road Safety Campaign Set to Launch in Otjozondjupa Region

Pretoria: A week-long road safety campaign organised by the Directorate of Education in the Otjozondjupa Region is set to commence with a street march in Otjiwarongo on 27 July 2026.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Otjozondjupa Regional Education Director, Gerhard Ndafenongo, announced during a planning meeting with stakeholders that the campaign is being spearheaded by their Sub-Division of Library, Archives, and Information Services. The campaign, scheduled to run from 27 to 31 July 2026, will extend to other towns within the region.

Ndafenongo stated that the official launch of the campaign will take place in Otjiwarongo, after which the team will proceed to Okahandja on 28 July and Okakarara on 29 July. The campaign will continue its journey to Otavi on 30 July and conclude in Grootfontein on 31 July, focusing on educating pedestrians and motorists about road safety issues.

He emphasized the campaign's objectives: to raise public awareness on road safety matters, foster collaboration among stakeholders, and encourage community participation in promoting safer roads and responsible road user behaviour.

The initiative will also cover discussions on road accidents, the consequences of sharing accident scene images on social media, ethical conduct at accident scenes, and youth road safety advocacy. The campaign will operate under the theme 'Safe Passage: Uniting the B1 Community Through Libraries.'

The campaign will see participation from various stakeholders, including the Namibian Police Force, municipal emergency services, the Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund, the National Road Safety Council, the Roads Authority, the Road Fund Administration, and the Ministry of Health and Social Services, among others.
