Rundu: Rundu Town Council (RTC) Strategic Executive for Community Services, Fransiska Kupembona, says the council has fulfilled its role in preparations for the Public Enterprises (PE) Games and is confident that the town is ready to host close to 5,000 participants. Kupembona stated in an interview with Nampa on Tuesday that the council has collaborated with event organizers to address requirements within its mandate.

According to Namibia Press Agency, most sporting activities, such as football, volleyball, and netball, will take place at the Rundu Sports Stadium, managed by the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts, and Culture. Kupembona highlighted that the council's contribution has focused on logistical support, particularly regarding accommodation and facility access.

To assist organizers, the council compiled and shared a database of registered accommodation establishments, including lodges, guest houses, and bed-and-breakfast facilities in Rundu. This list was expanded to include facilities in neighboring areas, such as parts of the Kavango West Region, ensuring sufficient accommodation options for participants. Kupembona noted that most accommodation facilities are fully booked, indicating that accommodation shortages are unlikely. Residents were also encouraged to offer private homes to visiting teams and participants.

The council has committed to leveling the athletics track and surrounding grounds at the sports stadium and creating an access route between the stadium and the Rundu Trade Fair Centre. This route will provide additional parking space for the expected influx of vehicles and spectators. The works are expected to be completed by Thursday ahead of the arrival of advance teams later this week. Improvements to stadium lighting have also been undertaken to support events scheduled for the evening.

Kupembona expressed confidence in the town's readiness to host the games, stating that they have done their best to meet the requirements presented to them. Regarding security, the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) has confirmed its readiness to assist during the event following discussions at a recent stakeholder meeting. Organizers are also expected to appoint a cleaning service provider to maintain cleanliness at venues throughout the games.

Kupembona expressed hope that participating public enterprises would leave a lasting legacy through corporate social responsibility projects that benefit the town and the wider region. The 2026 Annual General Meeting and sports tournament of the Public Enterprises Chief Executive Officer's Forum will take place in Rundu from 29 June to 05 July 2026.
