Monterrey: Veteran Spanish defender Sergio Ramos has confirmed his departure from Monterrey following the club's elimination by Toluca in the semifinals of the Liga MX Apertura tournament. The 2010 World Cup winner announced that he would not extend the season-long contract he signed in February.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Ramos declared his decision after Monterrey and Toluca ended their semifinal clash with a 3-3 aggregate score. Toluca advanced due to a superior regular-season record. Throughout his tenure with Monterrey, Ramos made 32 appearances and scored seven goals in all competitions, including participating in four matches and netting a goal at the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.
Ramos conveyed his emotions on social media, expressing sadness but also a sense of fulfillment, stating, "We are sad, but with a clear conscience knowing we gave everything on the pitch." He emphasized the importance of resilience and learning from the experience, adding, "The biggest regret is not being able to give the fans another final, because they deserve it the most. Thank you always for your support."
