Ondangwa: Late Regional Control Prosecutor Justine Ndapandula Shiweda was described as a 'martyr and a heroine of the Republic of Namibia' during an emotional memorial service held in Onambango village. She was targeted for her steadfast commitment to the rule of law and her unwavering integrity.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the Acting Prosecutor-General, Martha Imalwa, paid tribute to Shiweda, emphasizing that her death was not due to 'random misfortune' but because she was a dedicated soldier on the frontlines of Namibia's pursuit of peace and democracy. Imalwa highlighted that Shiweda became a target for those opposed to justice, underscoring that her attack was a direct retaliation for her integrity.

Imalwa recalled Shiweda's journey, noting that since joining the Office of the Prosecutor-General in 2019, she became known as 'Relief' and ascended to the position of Control Prosecutor in Ondangwa. She was recognized as a 'shield for the vulnerable,' standing firm against intimidation in bail objections.

Addressing Shiweda's children, Aune and Samuel Deverias, Imalwa reassured them of their mother's legacy, declaring the nation as their new family. She emphasized that Shiweda's legacy is their inheritance, likening it to a 'crown of pure gold.'

Imalwa also acknowledged the pervasive fear among prosecutors following the violent attack on Shiweda. She urged her colleagues to maintain their resolve, comparing their fight for justice to the liberation struggle against colonial exploitation. The Acting PG insisted that backing down would betray Shiweda's sacrifice and reminded them that their work is more than just a job but a calling requiring courage.

In a message delivered on behalf of the Inspector General of the Namibian Police Force, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo assured Shiweda's family of NamPol's commitment to conducting a thorough investigation and ensuring justice is served.

Shiweda succumbed to her injuries on 07 February 2026 after a brutal attack in October 2025. She is set to be laid to rest on Saturday morning.
