Windhoek: A total of 26,328 marriages were registered in Singapore in 2024, marking a 7.0 percent decline from the 28,310 marriages recorded in 2023, according to figures released Monday by the Singapore Department of Statistics.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the annual average number of marriages from 2020 to 2024 stood at 27,001, which is slightly lower than the 27,389 average recorded between 2015 and 2019. This trend indicates a consistent decline in marriage rates over the years.

Marriage rates for both men and women have shown a downward trend over the past decade. In 2024, there were 42.0 marriages per 1,000 unmarried males aged 15 to 49, a decrease from 44.4 in 2014. For unmarried females in the same age group, the rate fell to 40.1 per 1,000, compared to 40.8 a decade earlier.

The median ages at first marriage have continued to rise, with grooms having a median age of 31.1 years in 2024, up from 30.2 years in 2014, while brides' median age increased to 29.6 years from 28.2. This data reflects an ongoing trend toward later marriages.

In 2024, 7,382 marriages ended in divorce or annulment, representing a 3.7 percent increase from the 7,118 cases recorded in 2023, further highlighting changing marital patterns in Singapore.
