Six deaths recorded on Christmas Eve

Six lives were lost on Christmas Eve according to the weekend crime report released by the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) on Christmas day.

At Uupale village of the Okalongo Constituency in the Omusati Region, a 39-year-old cattle herder, identified as, Joao Baptista Gupita Wacalenda, allegedly drowned in the earth dam at about 10h00 on Saturday while taking cattle to drink.

A NamPol report issued on Sunday alleged that Wacalenda, who is an Angolan national, drowned in the earth dam and his body was found without clothes, which were discovered outside the dam.

The deceased’s body was discovered by village children who also took their cattle to the dam to drink.

The deceased’s next of kin have been informed and the body is kept at the Okahao Police Mortuary for autopsy.

In another drowning incident, an unidentified female body aged between 13 and 14 years, was retrieved at Goreagab Dam near Chinese Gardens, Okakuna Farm in the Khomas Region.

The report said the deceased allegedly drowned on an unknown date and was found after a search of another unidentified male alleged to have drowned in the same dam took place.

The report stated that a witness allegedly saw a man standing by the edge of the river, which was flowing before the victim fell into the water.

During the search, the team found the body of the unidentified female, who is dark in complexion and about one metre tall, while the body of the man is still missing and the search continues.

The teenage girl’s body was transported to the Windhoek Police Mortuary for autopsy.

In a different incident, a 24-year-old Namibian male allegedly committed suicide on Christmas Eve at about 06h00 in the field at Omatangela village, in Ohangwena region by hanging himself.

The report said Matias Heita Petrus’s body was discovered by his girlfriend, who was on her way to go for field work (ploughing).

The remains are being kept at Engela Mortuary, pending an autopsy. His next of kin have been informed of his death.

In similar but unrelated incident, a 34-year-old female allegedly committed suicide at Oshikweyo village-Eheke in Oshana Region at about 08h45 on Saturday.

It is alleged that the deceased, an Angolan national, was found hanging from a tree with a rope around her neck.
