The three people who died in a motor vehicle collision on the B1 road between Otjiwarongo and Otavi on Friday night, were on Monday identified by their close relatives.

Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Community Affairs Officer in the Otjozondjupa Region, Warrant Officer Olivia Haihambo in an interview with Nampa on Tuesday said the deceased were identified as Moyo Zibusiso, 27, Ndjambula Tuutaleni, 44, and 34-year-old Petrus Malakia.

“The trio died after their Toyota double cab had allegedly crashed into the trailer of a truck on the B1 road near Etunda farm,” said Haihambo.

The accident had occurred approximately 80 kilometres north of Otjiwarongo at about 20h20 on Friday night,’ she said.

Zibusiso and Tuulataleni succumbed to their injuries on the spot, while Malakia died on Saturday at the Katutura Intermediate Hospital, where he was transferred in critical condition, added Haihambo.

Zibusiso is a Zimbabwean national, while Tuutaleni and Malakia are Namibians, she noted.

The police officer further stated that the two adult male occupants who were in the truck, which belongs to a cement manufacturing company, all survived the accident.

“The white Toyota double cab was coming from the direction of Otavi to Otjiwarongo, while the truck headed the opposite,” she said.

A culpable homicide docket was opened at the Otavi Police Station on Saturday.
