Katima Mulilo:The Swapo Party Women's Council (SPWC) has been instrumental in mobilising voters for President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah during the 2024 Presidential and National Assembly Elections, according to council secretary Fransina Kahungu.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Kahungu emphasized that the council led efforts to support Nandi-Ndaitwah, who made history as Namibia's first female president. The SPWC also contributed significantly to the creation of the Swapo Party manifesto.

Since 2022, Kahungu has headed the ruling party's women's council, which plans to hold its ninth elective congress from December 9 to 11, 2026, in Katima Mulilo. Over the past five years, the council has implemented various socio-economic programmes throughout all 14 regions, including providing financial assistance to members involved in job-creation initiatives.

One notable initiative is the SPWC tailoring project in the Khomas Region, launched in April 2026. This project aims to equip participants with practical skills in income generation and entrepreneurship. The first group of 60 participants received training in fabric cutting, machine operation, garment assembly, and basic business skills, with plans to expand the programme to other regions.

SPWC Assistant Secretary for Research, Information and Programmes Ruth Masake urged women to engage more in agriculture and take advantage of opportunities available through the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform. Masake, also the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, encouraged women to express their interest in agricultural programmes via constituency councillors and regional offices, aiming to reduce Namibia's reliance on food imports by increasing domestic food production.
