Colombo: Sri Lankan police have arrested 76,000 individuals who failed to comply with warrants issued against them between January 1 and the end of September, local media reported on Monday. The arrests are part of a broader nationwide initiative aimed at curbing crime and drug trafficking across the country.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Police spokesperson F. U. Wootler stated that the operation involved searches on more than 5.6 million people throughout Sri Lanka during the first nine months of 2025. The searches were conducted to detect illegal drugs and weapons, contributing significantly to the law enforcement efforts.
Additionally, Sri Lankan police have seized a total of 1,248 kilograms of heroin and 1,852 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine over the past nine months. This highlights the scale of the drug problem and the continued efforts of law enforcement agencies to tackle it.
