African Stars continued with their fine form in the 2022/23 Namibia Premier Football League (NPFL) as they dispatched Civics and Citizens over the weekend to open a 10-point gap at the top.

On Saturday, Stars beat Citizens by a one-nil scoreline before accounting for the bottom of the log Citizens by a 5-1 scoreline on Sunday at the SKW Stadium.

Citizens, the only team without a win this season, had managed a one-all draw to Young Brazilians in Karasburg, to earn only their second point of the season.

Brazilians followed up the draw with a 1-0 victory over Civics on Sunday at the same venue.

The two victories saw Starlile, as Stars are known, open a 10-point lead over second-placed Life Fighters who lost 4-3 to Tigers on Saturday at Mokati Stadium in Otjiwarongo.

Fighters atoned for their defeat on Saturday by beating Orlando Pirates 3-1 on Sunday to keep their fading title challenge alive.

Pirates had beaten Julinho Sporting 3-1 in Rundu on Saturday.

Julinho recovered from their defeat to overcome Tigers on Sunday at the Rundu Sports Stadium.

In other results on Saturday, at the University of Namibia (UNAM) stadium, Tura Magic cemented their title as comeback kings of the league after overturning a 2-0 scoreline to win the match 3-2 against Blue Waters.

Magic scored their two goals through Solomon Omseb (two) and Nehemiah Dengu, who cancelled out Steven Damseb and Johannes Nambali’s strikes.

However, on Sunday, Magic squandered a two-goal lead to lose 4-2 to Eleven Arrows at the same venue.

Arrows had suffered a 3-0 defeat to UNAM the previous day, with the latter following it up with another 1-0 victory over Waters.

At Khomasdal Stadium, Black Africa triumphed over Okahandja United by 1-0 on Saturday, before losing by the same scoreline to Mighty Gunners at the same venue on Sunday.

On Sunday, United held Young African to a nil-all draw in Gobabis.

Young African had lost 2-0 on Saturday to Gunners at the same venue.

Following the conclusion of rounds 11 and 12, Stars lead the log with 32 points followed by Fighters with 22 points.

United are third with 21 points, while Gunners are fifth and Waters sixth with the same number of points.

At the bottom (position 16), Citizens have two points, while Arrows occupy the 15th position with nine points, with Brazilians in 14th position with 11 points.
