Gobabis:Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, Sanet Steenkamp, has emphasized the need for fairness and accessibility in Namibia's Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) ecosystem. This call was made during a speech delivered on her behalf at the graduation ceremony of 183 students at the Gobabis Vocational Training Centre.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Steenkamp highlighted that vocational pathways should not be viewed as secondary options. She stressed that for TVET to effectively transform Namibia, it must be grounded in fairness, ensuring that every young person, regardless of background, has equal access to quality training. She emphasized the importance of not leaving any region or talent behind due to circumstances.

Steenkamp also addressed the need for a just economy, pointing out that artisans should not be exploited, women in trades should not face discrimination, and opportunities should not be limited to those with connections. She urged the graduates to be fair employers and employees, emphasizing the value of skill over personal connections in achieving success.

The minister encouraged the graduates to mentor others and share their skills, noting that this act of lifting others is a true mark of graduation. She celebrated the resilience, hard work, and hope represented by the Omaheke Region's graduates, acknowledging their potential to contribute significantly to various industries, including electrical, plumbing, welding, hospitality, and administration.

In her speech, Steenkamp called on industry partners to support the graduates in gaining experience and encouraged the graduates to aim for employability and entrepreneurship. She highlighted the role of organizations such as the Namibia Training Authority, the National Energy Fund, and the Youth Credit Schemes in supporting these efforts.

The graduates completed their studies in diverse fields, including air conditioning and refrigeration, automotive electrical and electronics, automotive engineering, and leatherwork.
