Zhengzhou: Sugar futures closed higher Wednesday in daytime trading on the Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange (ZCE). The most active sugar contract for September 2025 delivery gained 35 yuan (about 4.89 U.S. dollars) to close at 5,779 yuan per tonne.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the trading activity was robust with the total trading volume for six listed sugar futures contracts on the ZCE reaching 183,878 lots. This resulted in a turnover of 10.54 billion yuan, reflecting a significant engagement from market participants.

China, a key consumer and importer of sugar globally, introduced sugar futures on the ZCE in January 2006. This strategic move was aimed at enabling sugar-related enterprises to hedge against price risks, providing them with a tool to manage volatility in the sugar market.
