Suspected Drug Dealer to Appear in Okakarara Magistrate’s Court This Week

Okakarara: A 20-year-old man is expected to appear in the Okakarara Magistrate's Court this week for possession and/or dealing in drugs at Okamatapati settlement. Namibian Police Force (NamPol) head of community affairs in the Otjozondjupa Region, Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha, on Wednesday told Nampa the suspect was allegedly found transporting 139 full Mandrax tablets and 2 448 kilogrammes of cannabis with a total value of over N.dollars 139 000.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the incident occurred Monday afternoon on the C22 road connecting Okakarara and Okamatapati. Members of the police's operation squad had mounted a mobile roadblock on the road after a tip-off from the public to intercept the illicit goods. The suspect was a passenger in an Isuzu pick-up vehicle travelling from Okakarara to Okamatapati.

Shortly after 17h30 on Monday, the vehicle arrived at the temporary police roadblock and was searched, leading to the seizure of the Mandrax and cannabis. The suspect was arrested and formally charged on Tuesday. Police investigations in the matter continue.
