Taxi Driver Allegedly Shoots, Kills Attacker in Windhoek

Windhoek: A series of serious crimes, including murder, culpable homicide, rape, and concealment of birth, were recorded in Windhoek over the weekend.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the weekend crime report issued by the Namibian Police Force on Sunday detailed the incidents, including the death of a Namibian man identified as Innocent Shawn. Shawn was allegedly shot dead by a taxi driver at around 19h30 on Saturday along Ongava Street in the Okahandja Park informal settlement. The police reported that the 50-year-old taxi driver was defending himself from five men, including Shawn, after they allegedly smashed the taxi's windows and assaulted him. The driver was transporting a customer when the five, including the customer, assaulted him. In response, he drew a firearm and fired a shot that hit Shawn, who later died upon arrival at the Katutura Intermediate Hospital.

In a separate incident, a person died after being run over while crossing Sam Nujoma Drive in the Otjomuise residential area around 23h30 on Friday. A 26-year-old man was driving the silver Volkswagen Polo involved in the accident.

Additionally, in Otjomuise, a 32-year-old woman was allegedly raped by two men who had offered to walk her home from a bar on Saturday between 02h00 and 03h00. The suspects allegedly grabbed her by the neck, dragged her into a riverbed, and raped her. No arrests have been made in connection with this case.

Furthermore, a case of concealment of birth was opened after a foetus wrapped in a black plastic bag was discovered along Zambia Street in the Havana informal settlement on Friday morning by a man collecting old cables. Police investigations into all cases continue.
