Ohangwena: The Ohangwena Region is fully prepared for the Regional Councils and Local Authorities Elections scheduled for Wednesday, Governor Kadiva Hamutumwa has said. The region began its electoral process on Monday with special voting for members of the Namibian Police Force and polling officers.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Hamutumwa confirmed in an interview that 342 polling stations have been established across Ohangwena, with security personnel deployed to every site. The coordination between the security cluster and the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has been smooth. Preparations have involved both administrative and community structures, including traditional authorities, civil society organisations, and government officials, all conducting mobilisation efforts to ensure voter understanding.
Hamutumwa highlighted the importance of participation in the Regional Councils and Local Authorities Elections as essential for completing the country's governance cycle, noting that last year's national elections were only the first stage. The implementation of national laws, policies, and the sixth National Development Plan relies heavily on regional and local authority structures.
The governor further urged residents to participate, maintaining that elections remain the most effective channel for expressing political views. She emphasized the importance of casting a ballot, encouraging voters to bring along others to the polls. 'There is no better way to air your view than through casting a ballot... Take your neighbour, take an elderly person, take a young person. When you go and vote, don't go alone,' she said.
