Windhoek: The body of a 16-year-old girl was discovered with two gunshot wounds on a farm in the Otavi District on Saturday.According to Namibia Press Agency, the Namibian Police Force's (NamPol) head of community affairs in the Otjozondjupa Region, Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha, informed Nampa on Monday that the body was found a few metres from the main farmhouse. It is also suspected that the girl was raped. The 26-year-old male suspect in the matter is known to police and is on the run.'The deceased's relatives are yet to be informed of her death,' Mbeha said. It is alleged that the girl left the house around 17h00 on Friday. Around 18h00 some of her housemates allegedly heard a gunshot but did not establish where it came from, Mbeha said. On Saturday morning at about 09h00, a man walked in the direction the girl took the previous night. He saw blood stains just over 40 metres from the house and then discovered the girl's body.The police were alerted and upon arrival at the crime scene, observed bl ood on the deceased's face and other parts of her body. Mbeha said the body was partly covered with her white shorts and a green shirt thought to belong to the suspect. 'Two possible gunshot wounds were discovered on the deceased's body by the police,' Mbeha said. The police also suspect that the girl was raped.The suspect, who resides on the same farm but in a different camp, allegedly visited the camp the girl stayed in on Friday night and has since gone on the run, added Mbeha. Police investigations continue.
