Elundu: A 16-year-old boy died on Friday after he was struck by lightning while herding cattle and goats at Elundu A village in the Ohangwena Region.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the weekend crime report issued on Sunday stated that the incident occurred around 17h00, and the deceased was in the company of a 15-year-old boy who was transported to the Eenhana State Hospital for treatment.
The deceased has been identified as Petrus Kambode, a Namibian citizen. No foul play is suspected, and the deceased's body was transported to the Eenhana State Hospital mortuary. His next of kin were informed.
In an unrelated incident, an inquest has been opened following the death of a 36-year-old man who allegedly committed suicide by drowning at Ouhongo C village in the Ohangwena Region on Saturday. The incident reportedly occurred around 19h00 when the deceased, identified as Timoteus Fillemon, allegedly threw himself into an earth dam and drowned. It is alleged that before that, the deceased attempted to hang himself, but was seen and rescued by community members. He then ran away from the rescuers and threw himself into a nearby earth dam, where he drowned.
In another unrelated incident, a security officer identified as 45-year-old Simon Shipingana Shitalatala, died on the spot when he reportedly shot himself in the head with his service pistol on Friday between Omafo and Engela village. No foul play is suspected and no suicide note was left behind. His body was transported to the Engela State Hospital for an autopsy. His next of kin are informed.
Meanwhile, on the same day, a 42-year-old female was allegedly raped in the Ongwediva constituency at around midnight. It is alleged that the victim was walking from Ohendjele Cuca Shop in Ohendjele village to her residence in Oshipumbu village when she noticed an unknown person following her. The man caught up with her, grabbed her arm, and pushed her into the grass, causing her to fall. The suspect allegedly removed the complainant's trousers and had sexual intercourse with her without her consent. No arrest has been made yet.
