Luanda: Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, is attending the Angola ICT Forum (ANGOTIC 2026) in Luanda, Angola, which started on Thursday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the minister is accompanied by Namibia Press Agency (Nampa) Acting Chief Executive Officer Jata Kazondu; Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) Director General Menesia Muinjo; Telecom Namibia Chief Executive Officer Stanley Shanapinda and other industry stakeholders. The annual technology forum brings together policymakers, technology entrepreneurs, and industry leaders to discuss digital transformation and innovation across the continent.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event on Thursday, Theofelus said the forum, convened by Angola's Ministry of Telecommunications, provides an important platform for Namibia to showcase its digitalisation efforts while strengthening bilateral cooperation with Angola. 'As one of the ministers responsible for ICT in Namibia, I accepted this invitation to come and share our efforts in terms of digitalisation,' she said.

The minister noted that the delegation comprises representatives from both the private sector and public enterprises tasked with advancing information and communication technology in Namibia. She said Namibia and Angola are seeking to deepen cooperation through the planned signing of a government-to-government memorandum of understanding (MoU), which is expected to formalise and strengthen existing partnerships between the two countries.

According to Theofelus, several collaborations are already in place. NBC has an existing cooperation agreement with its Angolan counterpart, while Nampa maintains a standing partnership with Angola's national news agency, ANGOP. 'The last leg of the MoU between our two countries, government to government, will solidify that collaborative effort between our two countries,' the minister stated.

Theofelus also expressed hope that cooperation would expand to the private sector, enabling businesses in both countries to work together in advancing their respective digital transformation agendas. She said Namibia and Angola could leverage each other's strengths to accelerate digitalisation and contribute to broader technological development across the southern African region.

The Angola ICT Forum ends Saturday.
