Three workers of a holiday resort situated outside Okahandja in the Otjozondjupa Region, were allegedly killed in a motor vehicle accident on Friday afternoon.

Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Spokesperson in the region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha, in an interview with Nampa on Saturday said the three deceased people have been identified by their relatives as Ronaldo Mutendere, 24, Jobson Kapiye, 29, and the 39-year-old Antoinette Juditha.

Mbeha explained that at approximately 20 kilometres west of Okahandja, the sedan the deceased persons were travelling in allegedly experienced a right rear tyre burst, leading to the driver losing control and it overturning at around 15h00.

“A 34-year-old male driver allegedly lost control over the vehicle, and it overturned several times before killing the three occupants on the spot,” said Mbeha.

Three other occupants, aged 20, 36, and 37, who were also in the same vehicle, sustained serious injuries and were taken to the Okahandja State Hospital on that same Friday in a critical condition.

The driver, who sustained slight injuries, has been arrested on charges of reckless and/or negligent driving; driving a vehicle without a valid licence; and overloading.

“All seven occupants, including the driver, are employees of a holiday resort and they were on their way to Okahandja after their shift ended,” said Mbeha.

Police investigations continue.
