Windhoek:National rail operator TransNamib has dismissed its Executive for Human Capital, Webster Gonzo, effective immediately. This decision comes after disciplinary proceedings where Gonzo was found guilty of gross negligence and breaching the company's code of conduct and ethics.

According to NAMPA, the dismissal took effect on 26 October 2026, with Gonzo retaining the right to appeal in accordance with company policy. TransNamib reported that Gonzo faced several charges of gross negligence, along with a charge related to breaching the code of conduct and ethics.

The disciplinary actions stem from an internal audit investigation conducted over the years 2025 and 2026, focusing on an alienation project by the company. Additionally, an external forensic investigation, sanctioned by the former board in 2025, influenced the proceedings. The matter was also reported to the Anti-Corruption Commission in June 2026, which subsequently approved the case for further investigation.

Both Gonzo and Alynsia Platt, the Executive for Properties, were suspended in February pending these disciplinary proceedings. The suspensions were described as precautionary, following a forensic investigation into property mismanagement, disposal irregularities, and statutory breaches. The board, in collaboration with the Minister of Works and Transport, stated that these measures were to ensure transparency and integrity in the process.
