Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday that the United States will permit Nvidia to export its H200 artificial intelligence chips to “approved customers” in China and other locations, provided that 25 percent of the revenue from these chip sales goes to the U.S. government.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Trump stated that this policy aims to support American jobs, bolster U.S. manufacturing, and benefit American taxpayers. He mentioned on his social media platform, Truth Social, that the Department of Commerce is in the process of finalizing the details of this policy. Furthermore, Trump indicated that similar conditions would apply to other American companies, including AMD and Intel.
Nvidia expressed support for Trump’s decision, emphasizing the positive impact on America’s chip industry. A spokesperson for Nvidia commented that offering the H200 to vetted commercial customers by the Department of Commerce is beneficial for the United States. The H200 chip is a more advanced versi
on than the H20 but is not Nvidia’s top-tier product. In August, Nvidia and its competitor AMD had agreed to share 15 percent of their chip sales revenue to China with the U.S. government, as reported by local media.
