Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday renewed his denial of any connection to the late American financier Jeffrey Epstein, accusing the Democrats of making up fake information. "They talk about me. I have nothing to do with the guy," Trump told reporters at the White House before departing for Scotland.According to Namibia Press Agency, Trump emphasized connections between Epstein and notable figures such as Larry Summers from Harvard and former President Bill Clinton, suggesting they should be the focus of scrutiny. Summers, who served as U.S. treasury secretary under Clinton and director of the National Economic Council under Obama, is now a professor and President Emeritus at Harvard University.Trump sought to dismiss a recent report by The Wall Street Journal, which claimed Epstein received a letter for his 50th birthday in 2003 bearing Trump's signature. "Now, somebody could have written a letter and used my name, but that's happened a lot," Trump suggested, attempting to distance himself from the allegations.Shifting his rhetoric towards the Democratic Party, Trump criticized them as purveyors of misinformation. "Everything's fake with the Democrats ... Everything is fake. They're a bunch of sick people," he stated.Epstein, who had extensive ties with U.S. political and business elites, was arrested on sex crime charges and died in prison in August 2019, with his death officially ruled as a suicide. During his 2024 presidential campaign, Trump promised to release Epstein-related documents if re-elected. However, a joint memo from the U.S. Justice Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation earlier this month asserted that no incriminating "client list" exists and that "no further disclosure would be appropriate or warranted."The Trump administration's stance on the Epstein matter has faced widespread criticism, with some supporters even calling for Attorney General Pam Bondi's resignation after she denied the existence of an Epstein client list. Earlier this week, The Wall Street Jou rnal also reported that Trump had been briefed by his attorney general in May about being mentioned multiple times in the Epstein files. In response, a White House spokesperson labeled the report as "fake news."
