Two Deaths Reported Over Weekend in Kavango West Region

Kavango west: The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Kavango West Region recorded two deaths over the weekend after a 29-year-old man allegedly committed suicide, while a four-year-old girl was allegedly killed by a neighbor.

According to Namibia Press Agency, in the first incident, Muhongi Andreas Katjaka allegedly committed suicide by hanging around 21h40 on Sunday at Nzinze village. NamPol's spokesperson in the region, Chief Inspector Raimbert Muronga, confirmed the incidents on Monday. He said Katjaka's body was discovered hanging in his room with a rope around his neck. Muronga further said that before his death, the deceased had filed a criminal complaint at Kahenge Police Station for defamation of character against known individuals. No suicide note was left behind, and the motive remains unknown at this time. His body has been transported to the Nkurenkuru Police Mortuary for an autopsy.

In the second incident, a four-year-old girl identified as Martha Kapango Hamunyela died after allegedly being struck on the head with a spade around 18h00 on Sunday at Kahoro village in the Mpungu Constituency. He said the child was playing at the suspect's residence with other children. The man reportedly chased the children away from his property and allegedly struck the girl with the spade, killing her instantly. Muronga noted that the suspect fled the scene and remains at large, with the police in active pursuit. The minor's next of kin have been informed of her death, and her remains were transported to the Nkurenkuru Police Mortuary for a post-mortem. Police investigations in both matters continue.
