Windhoek: Two people died in separate car accidents over the weekend, the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) has reported. A 37-year-old man died after the pick-up he was driving overturned near Okazapamba in the Otjinene area around 00h30 on Friday, NamPol spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Kauna reported in the weekend crime report. In the other accident, a 71-year-old man died after his Toyota pick-up overturned on the Eemboo gravel road near Okahenge village around 15h42 on Saturday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the police are further investigating the death of a 23-year-old man who allegedly hanged himself in his room at Ncaute in the Kavango East Region. 'The motive behind the suicide is not known and no foul play is suspected,' the crime report said. The next of kin of the deceased have been informed and police investigations continue.
The police also reported a case of baby dumping at Tsumeb, where a newborn baby was allegedly found in a toilet in the Saamstaan location around 22h30 on Saturday. 'It is alleged that the suspect, a 19-year-old Namibian female, dumped her newborn baby girl in a toilet, where the infant was discovered and rescued after a guardian heard her crying and alerted the police,' Shikwambi said. Both the suspect and the baby were admitted to a local hospital for medical treatment. Police investigations continue.
Meanwhile in Windhoek, a 33-year-old woman was allegedly attacked and robbed while walking in Ludwigsdorf around 11h00 on Friday. Three men armed with a panga allegedly stopped alongside her in a vehicle, assaulted her, and stole her mobile phone valued at more than N$26,000.
In Usakos, three armed men allegedly forced their way into a couple's home Friday night. They allegedly assaulted and tied up the victims before stealing electronic devices. The victims later freed themselves and sought help from a neighbour before contacting the police.
At Omakange, suspects allegedly broke into business premises and stole jackpot machines, a jukebox, drinks, and cash valued at more than N$300,000 on Saturday. No arrests have been made in connection with the robbery.
