Rundu: A two-month-old baby died in the Kehemu residential area of Rundu on Saturday. The Namibian Police Force's crime investigations coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Bonifasius Kanyetu, confirmed the incident to Nampa and identified the baby as Romanus Clementine Kapango. The baby was reportedly not ill and was sleeping on the same bed as her mother.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Deputy Commissioner Kanyetu stated that the mother discovered her baby was not breathing when she woke around 02h00. Blood and foam were observed coming from the baby's nose. The child was pronounced dead at the scene, and the police transported her body to the Rundu State Hospital mortuary.
Kanyetu noted the possibility that the mother might have accidentally slept on her baby. Eyewitnesses alleged that the mother appeared intoxicated the day before the incident. Currently, no case has been opened as the police are awaiting the postmortem results.
