Opuwo: The second edition of the Uaurikua Kakuva memorial annual tournament is set to take place from 15 to 17 May 2026, with football and netball teams expected to gather for a weekend of sporting action and community unity.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the tournament is held in honour of the late Uaurikua Kakuva, who died in April 2021. Kakuva served as the former councillor of the Opuwo Rural Constituency and dedicated nearly 35 years of service as principal of Musaso Combined School.

Speaking ahead of the event, Esau Tjihange, spokesperson of Otwani Football Club, said the tournament aims to promote sports development, unite communities, and provide young people with an opportunity to showcase their talent. "This tournament is important because it brings community members together and gives young players a platform to display their abilities. It also creates opportunities for Kunene Second Division referees to participate in local tournaments and gain experience," said Tjihange.

According to the organisers, between 18 and 22 teams are expected to participate in this year's competition. The football category carries a total prize pool of N.dollars 30,000, while registration fees are set at N.dollars 1,700 per team. Netball teams will compete for a total prize pool of N.dollars 10,000, with registration fees set at N.dollars 1,000 per team.
