Kampala: The Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) has unveiled a provisional squad in preparation for the upcoming CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN). Newly appointed coaches Fred Muhumuza and Morley Byekwaso announced the 41-man squad on Saturday, which is set to commence training on June 23.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Uganda, alongside Kenya and Tanzania, will co-host the Championship scheduled from August 2-30, following its rescheduling from the previous year to 2025. The Uganda Cranes have been drawn into Group C with Niger, Guinea, South Africa, and Algeria, and will play their group stage matches at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala.

The provisional squad includes eight players from Viper SC, the 2024-25 Uganda Premier League champions, notably Allan Okello and Milton Karisa. Uganda will be making their seventh appearance in the CHAN tournament, which is exclusively for teams with players active in their national league competitions. Despite their presence in the last six tournaments held in Sudan, South Africa, Rwanda, Morocco, Cameroon, and Algeria, the Uganda Cranes have yet to advance to the knockout stages.

The squad features a diverse lineup with goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders, and forwards, aiming to break their previous performance record and make a significant impact in this year's Championship. As the team gears up for the tournament, the coaches and players are focused on improving their strategy to achieve better outcomes this time around.
