Venaani urges African governments to allow youth to take rightful place

Popular Democratic Movement Leader McHenry Venaani, has called on African governments to allow the youth to take their rightful place at the forefront of the continent’s transformation, as the next generation of leaders.

Venaani while addressing the Annual Young Democratic Union of Africa Conference underway in Lilongwe Malawi on Saturday said African governments should ensure a conducive environment is provided for the youth to strive in.

In a statement availed to Nampa, Venaani said resources alone are not enough to ensure Africa’s young people secure productive work amid a changing labour market, but that they gain the skills they need through the education system while also ensuring that private sectors and individuals generate jobs. ‘Reformed curricula that are innovative enough to meet current and evolving labour demands, deliberate policies that increase spending and the allocation of resources to technical and vocational training need immediate attention,’ said Venaani.

He said the unemployment crisis that currently plagues the youth across Africa as informed by the Bloomberg article published earlier this year, is a key indication and necessary wakeup call that African leaders must urgently address the unemployment crisis. Because there must be a deliberate urgency by all actors across the African continent to establish pathways to tackle the many specific issues facing the youth in the continental.

These efforts must foster resilience, propose innovative solutions, drive social progress, enable youth empowerment and inspire political change by virtue, he said.

‘The Democratic Union of Africa is an ideological body that believes in the social market economy and the rights of the individual. Therefore, wherever we govern, as centre-right movements, we must endeavour to create socio-economic conditions for the youth to thrive and take their rightful place as the next generation of leaders,’ stated Venaani.
