Hanoi: The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has put forward a proposal for the construction of two new airports in the south-central and Central Highlands regions. This initiative aims to enhance regional connectivity, as reported by the local daily Voice of Vietnam on Wednesday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the proposed airports will also serve to boost tourism, improve logistics, and create new growth drivers for these regions. Under the plan, Mang Den Airport is set to be developed in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum, with an estimated investment of nearly 5 trillion Vietnamese dong (approximately 190 million U.S. dollars) and a designated land area of about 350 hectares.

In addition, Van Phong Airport will be established in the south-central province of Khanh Hoa, requiring an investment of more than 9.2 trillion Vietnamese dong (around 350 million dollars) and spanning over 497 hectares. These developments are part of a broader strategy to expand Vietnam's airport infrastructure.

With the completion of these projects, Vietnam is projected to have a total of 33 airports by 2030. This expansion will result in a combined designed capacity to handle 297 million passengers, significantly enhancing the country's aviation capabilities.
