Windhoek: Namibia's visa-on-arrival system has generated more than N.dollars 413 million in revenue in less than 12 months, Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security Lucia Iipumbu revealed during a Cabinet Committee Briefing on Friday.According to Namibia Press Agency, Iipumbu provided an update on the ministry's immigration services, stating that the policy has significantly contributed to government revenue while facilitating travel and economic activity. "From 03 March 2025 to 31 January 2026, a total of 289,510 visas on arrival were issued. Revenue generated amounted to N.dollars 413,356,900 in less than 12 months," she said.The minister highlighted that the visa-on-arrival system is part of Namibia's broader immigration reforms aimed at improving efficiency while supporting national development. "This reflects a balanced approach, safeguarding national security while facilitating tourism, investment, and economic growth," Iipumbu noted.She mentioned that the ministry continues to m odernize immigration systems and strengthen border security while ensuring Namibia remains accessible to international visitors. In addition to visa services, the ministry issued 51,285 travel documents, including 50,155 ordinary passports during the reporting period.Iipumbu emphasized that immigration management plays an important role in national security and economic development. "The ministry carries a solemn constitutional mandate: to safeguard national security, uphold the rule of law, manage immigration, provide civil registration and identification services, and ensure the safe custody, rehabilitation, and reintegration of offenders," she said.The minister also highlighted Namibia's enrollment in the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Public Key Directory in November 2025, a system used globally to authenticate electronic passports. She stated that this development strengthens passport security and helps prevent identity fraud and other cross-border crimes.According to Iipumbu, the ministry will continue implementing reforms aimed at improving immigration services and border management. She further called on citizens and stakeholders to support government efforts to maintain national security while promoting economic growth and international cooperation.The Cabinet Committee Briefing forms part of regular government updates aimed at informing the public about the work and progress of ministries.
